fresh from the desk - week 28 to 31

sorry for not updating my column for a month. but i'm sure you'll find lots of stuff inside this big report. let's start right away with a long awaited album release...

nervous records finally released the kim english album higher things. among the single hits supernatural, nitelife and learn 2 luv, there are lots of brand new and hot house tracks on this triple vinyl pack to discover. producers involved are maurice, mousse t., frankie feliciano, mood II swing and more. ultra naté has a new double 12" out on am:pm records: new kind of medicine is mixed by danny tenaglia, david morales and albert cabrera. e-smoove featuring latanza waters déjà vu is a funky club groover on nervous records and could very vell be a summer hit.

dj spen delievers a ten minute extravaganza on his jazz excursion remix build around an irrisistible sax of the japser street company track a feelin. kerri chandler put out the outstanding bassmental ep featuring dreamer g, dee dee brave, grampa and gate ah in old school house style. m.d.-v.s.-l.r. put out nothing stays the same, a track remembering me of the classic open your eyes by truth since it is very similair.

yoshitoshi records are back after the two double albums with a brand new and hot 12" by kings of tomorrow titled i want you (for myself) in typical k.o.t. underground style. and finally, needin' u by david morales presents the face has been put out by definity records, a simple but effective piano driven track. eric kupper puts out k-scope 3 on twisted records, an ep of four slamming house cuts. the already successfull jestofunk feat. jocelyn brown special love gets news life with slamming steve 'silk' hurley remixes. aretha franklin gets the remix treatment by david morales on her new single here we go again - classic def-mix house music with lots of percussion and pianos.

ron trent and anthony nicholson are back with two 12" on prescription records. both the afro nova ep and the konfusion kiddz are laidback, easy groovers. the system's classic you're in my system gets backed up with kerri chandlers atmosphere - you either love it or hate it and it's out on ibadan records. after a while of absence, guidance records put out a fine ambient-jazzy track called el regalo de amor by dubtribe sound system. come inside by cosmic rituals is a joe claussell production on spiritual life music, and it's all about percussion and the body'n'soul feeling. on the afro house tip, seasons of love by blaze on nite groove records is a winner. the earlier mentioned blaze and joe claussell are responsible for the jazzy and percussive remixes of innerside, a track by shazz featuring ken norris, out on yellow records. also on the same label is romatt feat. gail powers push me up, a pumping house track with a nice piano dub on the flip.

ladysmith black mambazo's the star and the wiseman has been remixed by roger sanchez and kings of tomorrow for club play. very big among dj's at the moment is tourism, the quadruple-vinyl album by danny tenalgia out on twisted records. danny delievers some of his twilo medicine, but the difference to his various 12" projects is that these tracks feature vocalists like liz torrres, celeda and darrell martin. the new 12" by state of mind take control has just been released on sound of ministry records with speed garage mixes included as well. patti austion sees the return to the dancefloor with the maurice fulton remixes of her why you wanna be like that on realtime records. om records from san francisco have put out another fine 12". inside by terra dëva comes with a soulful dub by naked music nyc. back on work is also francois k. with his time and space, a spacey leftfield houser. at last, todd edwards releases his new ep isaiah 41:13 on i! records. nothing new, just his so loved medicine.

up on the jazzy side, we've got one starry night by kevin yost on i! records taken from his last ep, absolutely brilliant. 95 north have put out forever underground on large records, a progressive-jazzy track. michael watford is back with a garage version of the stevie wonder classsic as, produced by brothers of peace and it's out on soundmen on wax records. paul simpson teams up with philly-vibe classic man vincent montana on play away/vibe vertigo by lp & s on cutting records. vincent montana shows us how good he still can play the xylophone. cassio's baby love gets rereleased on the glasgow underground label with brand new remixes by dj q and muzique tropique. got the devil in me by mad moses is a house track driven by a mad harmonica, you can find this one on idny records.

trackwise, we got a four track ep by mateo & matos titled the final cut e.p. on united underground house sounds, a brand new label distributed by distant music. dj rasoul released soul searching vol. 2  on large records, an ep with soulful disco-ish cuts. lenny fontana released heavy vybes on nrk records, a  jazzy track.  the football word championships are just over, and am:pm records finally release mas que mancada (originally titled mas que nada) by ronaldos revenge, a huge and already very successful samba houser (you might already have the bootlegg). charles dockins released journey on slip'n'slide records, a beautiful garage song featuring the talented sheila ford on vocals (his album can be expected in september on the same label).

finally, let me add some words on an absolutely brilliant album. it's by maxwell, it's titled embrya, it's out on sony records, and it's a must have! soulful and groovy summer vibes with laidback vocals - perfect for this season...
